Brandon Boyd, the franchisee behind Senior Care Authority of Central Ohio East, started his business as a tribute to his grandparents and a deeply personal mission to guide families through one of life’s most challenging transitions.
“I didn’t have professional experience in senior care, but I learned firsthand what it means while helping my grandparents,” Brandon said. “I was lost and frustrated and confused and wanted to do the best I could — I didn’t want other people to feel like that.”
In honor of Grandparents Appreciation Month, Brandon shares his journey from grandson to guide, offering insights into the vital support families need when caring for their aging loved ones.
A Personal Connection to Caregiving
Brandon’s professional background was in IT, health care support and project management, but his heart was always tied to his caregiving experiences. He remembers helping his grandparents with transportation, finances, home upkeep and — most importantly — companionship.
“I was really just trying to socialize with them and make sure they didn’t feel alone and isolated, particularly after my grandfather died,” Brandon said. “I also managed all the finances for my grandmother.”
Those moments of love and responsibility opened his eyes to the difficulties families face when navigating senior care alone. “We thought it was just stay at home or go to a nursing home,” Brandon said. “My grandmother would have enjoyed being around people her own age and not having to worry about cleaning or cooking or home maintenance. We just didn’t know about all the options available.”
Discovering a Calling Through Senior Care Authority
When a broker introduced Brandon to franchise ownership, Senior Care Authority stood out immediately. “I almost thought Senior Care Authority was too good to be true,” he said. “I didn’t know you could make such a good living doing such good work.”
The brand’s Beyond Driving with Dignity program, an exclusive program designed to help older adults transition from driving safely and respectfully, was especially meaningful to him. “My grandfather went through that process of not being able to drive anymore and it frustrated him,” Brandon said. “He actually got in an accident and it really broke his spirit. I would have loved to put my grandfather through the BDD program so he could have had a happier end of his life.”
Since opening his Central Ohio business in July 2025, Brandon says he’s excited to meet families face-to-face and offer them what he once wished his own family had: clarity, compassion and the right care options.
“I am most excited about being able to help families, in person, face-to-face,” he said. “I can help people get their loved one to a living arrangement where they feel safe and secure and can enjoy the last years of their life in safety and comfort.”
Carrying Forward His Grandparents’ Legacy
For Brandon, this new chapter is about more than business. It’s about honoring his grandparents and giving back to other families in similar situations. “That is really what motivated me to do this — I am doing this as a tribute to them,” he said. “I saw how hard navigating senior care can be alone.”
Now, during National Grandparents Appreciation Month, Brandon reflects on his journey with gratitude and determination. “I didn’t have to redesign anything and build everything from the ground up,” he said. “Senior Care Authority gave me the opportunity to take my experiences and help others — and that’s exactly what I plan to do.”
