For Don Minter, the decision to open a Senior Care Authority franchise was a full-circle mission that combined both personal experience with professional expertise.
“My dad having Alzheimer’s was one of the reasons I got into this business,” Minter said. “He was diagnosed in 1997, and I ended up becoming his caregiver. He passed away seven years later. That experience changed me — it showed me how important this kind of support is for families.”
Before joining Senior Care Authority, Minter worked in several large franchises such as Cracker Barrel and Red Lobster in managerial positions. He later built a successful career in hospitality, working as a food and beverage director at a large continuing care retirement community — something that aligned with his values.
“In 2016, my wife and I were talking, and we decided it was time to move onto our own business,” he said. “At first I was looking at franchises related to my food background, but I really loved working with seniors, so we started looking into that.”

“We research everything related to the client’s budget, care needs and personal preferences” Minter said. “We’ve developed relationships with people all over the area. The business has superseded all of our expectations — it’s grown every year.”
Now eight years into business ownership, Minter has become a mentor for new franchisees within the Senior Care Authority system.
“The support was good from the beginning — we were about the 30th-something franchisee with the company,” he said. “The team really listens, and you can make this business your own. The structure and support is there, but there’s also the freedom to build something that fits you.”
As they approach retirement age, Don and his wife have no plans of slowing down. “I feel like we’re going to do this for a long time,” he said. “It’s about finding the right people and representing the brand the way it’s meant to be represented.”
