Types of Senior Care Communities in Greenville, SC

Assisted Living Community

Assisted living communities provide a safe, somewhat supervised environment for people who want assistance with meals, housekeeping, laundry, and transportation, as well as support with activities of daily living (ADLs) and medication management. Assisted living also provides opportunities for socialization, engagement, and activities.

Memory Care Community

Also called memory support, memory care communities offer many of the amenities and services provided by assisted living situations but typically offer more supervision and a greater amount of caregiver involvement while assisting with a resident’s ADLs. Activities and care are geared toward people with varying levels of cognitive impairment.

Residential Care Homes

Sometimes called personal care homes, these facilities are typically private homes with fewer residents than in an assisted living community. Regulations vary from state to state; the common denominator is the homelike environment, and depending on licensing requirements, residential care homes often provide assisted living level care as well as memory support.

Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF)

An SNF is a medical model, which means that this is often the most appropriate choice for people requiring medical interventions or recovering from an illness or injury. In many states, assisted living and memory care communities are not licensed to address certain medical needs such as IV therapies, feeding tubes, sliding scale diabetes treatment, and wound care. When this restriction exists, families are encouraged to explore an SNF.

Independent Living

This option is ideal for active, independent seniors who may decide that help with meal preparation, housekeeping, and laundry services will make their lives more enjoyable and manageable. Many independent living communities will also offer some assistance with transportation and group activities.

Respite Care

Respite usually refers to a temporary situation where a family needs a break from providing care at home or cannot care for their loved one at home for a limited amount of time. Sometimes a brief respite opportunity can help a family caregiver regroup, take time for some self-care, or just rest and rejuvenation. Policies for respite vary from community to community.

Hospice Care

Hospice is the stage of care when curative strategies have been abandoned. Someone with a chronic illness in later stages or who may be within six months of end of life is a good candidate for these services. Hospice supports the person in care and bolsters the entire family by helping with grief and bereavement services, spiritual support, symptom and pain management, and more. Hospice can offer relief for families during an emotionally important but difficult time.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC)

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) are for persons 60 years of age or older. They provide individuals with long-term care in the form of independent living units, residential care/assisted living services, and skilled nursing care. Typically, all these various living types are all in one location, and residents move between the various care options as they age.

Grandpa and Grandson

"Linda spent time really understanding what our needs were and worked hard to find the right environment that met those needs. Whether it was the communities survey history, longevity of staff, activities, transportation, room layout or just the financial investment, Linda was so diligent in making sure we were making the best choice we could. We are convinced that Linda's involvement helped us find the best place for our loved one's care. I really don't know what we would have done if Linda hadn't been there to guide us along the way. We whole heartedly thank her and would highly recommend her services to anyone in a similar situation. She made the difficult bearable."

- P. Shaw

"I knew nothing about finding an assisted living facility for my dad before I met Linda. She was professional, knowledgeable, educational, and most importantly caring. We looked at 4 different places that all met the criteria. Together we selected the best one. Days after selection, my dad was informed he needed to move from his current skilled care facility to someplace else. Insurance said so. There are no family members within an 8 hour drive of my dad and Linda facilitated the move on her own. She even made arrangements for temporary furniture until family could return. Never in my adult life have I experienced such genuine care from a service provider. Linda is by far the best."

- MARK CHEBEN

SCA in Greenville went beyond in such ways as meeting with my Mom for comfort, arranging for other care and even moving.

- B. Shelton

"My parents were set to move to one assisted living facility in Hendersonville, NC from New Jersey when the facility backend out at the last minute due to my 95 year old father's condition after we sent a deposit and ordered furniture and lifted all the paperwork. Linda Cale was fabulous and jumped into action from giving us recommendations for several other assisted living facilities and reaching out to them on our behalf. She was upfront with the facilities regrading my father's condition and with her help we settled on California Reserve where they are moving later this month in October. I don't know where we could be without her help. I would recommend Linda to anyone needing assistance when it comes to assisted living for a parent. Thank you Linda."

"I cannot recommend Linda enough for her assistance, guidance and consultation for our needs. We began with a discussion for a driving self-assessment for my husband. She was considerate and listened to his concerns but was honest about the risks and put his safety and the safety of others first. Understanding his background she speaks to him in a way that he feels respected, honored and treats him with the dignity he deserves. She brought him options of the companis for long term care that allows me resolve when I need it. He gets new people to share his stories with and I get to refresh, recharge and enjoy my time as well. Her support is giving us a way to move forward with confidence and know she will be there every step of our journey."
