My name is Jerry Moss. My 92-year-old dad has been at Beachwood Commons since early 2019. He came here from an independent living facility because he needed a higher level of care that Beachwood Commons provides. My dad seems very happy and well adjusted at Beachwood Commons and our family is very pleased with the level of support, comfort, and care he receives. Since the pandemic, we no longer have regular in person contact with my dad. Beachwood Commons has created programs and opened new lines of communication to adapt to the new demands on them to care for him in a safe environment. I am in regular contact with the staff and feel comfortable that he receives everything he needs to be safe and secure.

When it became apparent that my 93-year-old mother could no longer live alone, my sisters and I sought an assisted living facility that could accommodate her. The morning I visited Beachwood Commons I had appointments later that day at two other facilities in the area. My sisters were at the same time visiting facilities in states where they lived. Upon meeting with Diane Strunak, the Senior Living Counselor, and touring the facility, I knew that I had found a new home for my mother and cancelled my other appointments. Within less than 1 week I moved my mother from her home in Connecticut into Beachwood Commons. I never regretted that decision for the nearly 3 years that she lived there. Despite such an uprooting move, my mother quickly acclimated to her new home. The staff were very welcoming, including inviting me to lunch, and introduced my mother to the residents. The nursing staff reviewed her medical records and pharmaceutical needs and obtained her medications from their affiliated pharmacy. They were also available in person or by phone when I needed to touch base. My mother faithfully read the weekly activity calendar and checked off the activities that she planned to attend. Bingo always received 5 checks and was a highlight for my mother. Weekly manicures, and the ability to have her hair washed and set in the facility’s salon were welcomed pampering. She also joined the group on scenic rides and looked forward to live entertainment. Although the onset of the COVID pandemic curtailed these activities, the staff kept the residents engaged while avoiding outside contact. Unfortunately, my mother broke her hip in April of 2020 which required surgery and rehabilitation for nearly 2 months. When my mother was ready for discharge, I explained to her discharge team that I did not need to investigate housing options as Beachwood Commons provided skilled nursing care. Her discharge team conferred with the nursing staff and counselors at Beachwood Commons, a care plan was compiled, and her needs were met. Thankfully, given Beachwood Common’s mission to provide their residents a home to age in place, my mother returned to her apartment and a sense of normalcy and routine. My mother did not regain her ability to walk and required extra personal care which the staff at Beachwood Commons provided. As my mother declined physically and cognitively, I reached out to hospice to visit my mother, especially during the pandemic when I could not visit with her. During the summer months, I was able to visit with her outside. Once the weather curtailed these visits, the Beachwood Commons staff were always available to provide me with updates and used Facetime so my sisters and I could stay in touch and have regular ‘virtual visits’. When my mother’s passing was imminent, my husband and I were able to spend some time with her in her apartment. We were always impressed by the patience and empathy of the staff, and we felt that they cared for her like family. In conclusion, given the compassionate and professional care that my mother received, I highly recommend Beachwood Commons without any reservations to anyone who is looking for a nurturing home for themselves or a loved one.

I was looking for a facility for my husband that would not feel like a nursing home but where he could feel at home and get the care I could not provide him at home. At first I went to Aberdeen Crossings, a sister facility, but discovered Beachwood Commons, which is closer to my home and both my children. We are all extremely pleased with the quality of care and attention my husband receives. And especially during these difficult times of the covid 19 virus, I get timely phone calls with any changes due to the virus. During the winter when it's hard to get him from the car into my daughter's home, we have been able to make arrangements for the private dining room so we can share lunch and special events with my husband and 4 young grandchildren without disturbing other guests or residents. In addition, and very important when placing a loved one in any type of facility, their nursing staff from my experience with both our parents is stellar. I am more than pleased with the facility and highly recommend it.
