Matt and Kathy Johnson
Kathy and Matt both have an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for providing great client service that they’ve developed throughout their careers. When they had a chance to seek out new opportunities in 2014, they were motivated to look into the senior care market based on their desire to own a business that could truly make a positive difference in peoples’ lives, and their own experience in supporting their aging parents. Kathy’s mom was diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer’s in 2010. Along with her siblings, Kathy has supported her dad as he’s navigated the journey of caring for her mom. Most recently, that included investigating what their long-term care insurance covered, plus identifying resources for respite care, potential at-home care, and memory care facilities for when it’s no longer safe for her to be at home. Similarly, Matt’s mother is in her 90’s and she is beginning to need some additional support with medical appointments and to ensure her safety and quality of life.
From her experiences, Kathy says, “For the uninitiated, it can be an overwhelming process to digest all the information about the resources and residences available, the types of care and services each does or doesn’t provide, the costs involved, and determining the best fit for their family member. It’s challenging to even know the questions to ask. That’s why we are so excited about providing a free service to families going through this process. We hope to reduce their stress and offer expertise to help them evaluate the options as they make these important decisions for their loved one.”
Matt is a natural people person and a creative problem solver. From his many years of experience in residential real estate and development, he has fine-tuned his ability to consult with clients by carefully listening to their needs, desires and goals, then providing recommendations that address the key criteria they’ve defined. He knows he can use these skills to help families assess needs, understand financial qualifications and prioritize the living options that best address their needs.
Kathy’s 30+ years in executive roles in marketing and business have helped her develop a strength in bringing order out of chaos, leading complex projects, multi-tasking and working with a wide range of people. She is a strong communicator and exceptionally detail-oriented. Kathy and Matt are both working on becoming Certified Senior Advisors, and they are excited to combine their business and personal experience with their passion for serving others with their Senior Care Authority business.
Matt explains why they chose Senior Care Authority: “It was important to us to find a franchisor that demonstrated excellence, integrity and expertise in the industry, and provided a true value to their clients. We were very impressed with Frank Samson, the founder, because he has a deep compassion for
people and an in-depth understanding of the senior market. He’s provided these services to families for years himself. We are excited to bring this service to Minnesota.”
A life-long resident of the Twin Cities, Matt grew up in Minneapolis. Kathy is from Iowa, but she’s called the Twin Cities home for nearly 30 years. Matt and Kathy have two daughters and have lived in Eden Prairie for about 18 years. They both actively volunteer in their church, plus volunteer at their children’s school and extra-curricular activities.
